This view, probably taken from the balcony of the Ibis boathouse, shows the rural nature of the Surrey shore of the Mortlake Reach in the late nineteenth century. The event taking place is the Ibis Regatta. Geoff Lofts (ex-Ibis RC) has a report of the regatta, printed in the Ibis Magazine. According to the records and unfortunately for historians of Quintin and its predecessor, the Polytechnic Rowing Club, no Polytechnic oarsmen took part in this race.
