"In the first race [at 12 noon], Quintin started at 40 and kept up 36 to the ¾ mile. University started at 38 and settled to 33 and led by ¼ length at the ¼ mile. They were level at the ½ mile and ¾ mile. Quintin led by ½ length at the Mile and 1⅛ mile but could not hold it.
In the re-row [at 5.45pm], Quintin led throughout. They had ½ length at the ¼ mile, 1½ lengths at Fawley, where they were at 34, and 1¼ lengths at the Mile. University challenged repeatedly but Quintin kept ahead." [HRR]
